Here is a summary of the tests and technologies that we utilize:

Immunohistochemical stains: CPC has an extensive list of antibodies which our Pathologists utilize to differentiate and diagnose the wide variety of disease maladies we receive on a daily basis. These stains provide valuable information so that our Pathologists can provide definitive diagnoses for our clients.

Light Microscopy: This technique is most commonly used in conjunction with our immunohistochemistry and special stains for the differentiation and diagnosis of tissue related specimens.

Special stains: CPC has an extensive array of special stains which are also utilized by our Pathologists to differentiate and diagnose specific tissue samples. Many of these are used in conjunction with immunohistochemical stains to provide the most definitive diagnosis for our clients.

Direct Immunoflourescence: CPC, with our expertise in Dermatopathology, offers DIF testing to supplement its outstanding testing expertise. Direct Immunofluorescence will provide distinctive patterns of staining for patients with connective tissue diseases, bullous disorders ad other dermal pathologies.

Frozen Sections: Frozen sections are performed on specimens when the performing physician needs a rapid interpretation of the tissue to determine if the excision done is enough to remove all of the concerning pathology present. Frozen sections are usually done intraoperatively and require by the College of American Pathologists a maximum turnaround time of 20 minutes upon receipt in the laboratory. Laser Scanning Cytometry: A method of examining tissue and fluids for cutaneous lymphomas.

Consultative Slide Review: CPC Pathologists offer consultative slide review to allow you to submit difficult cases to them where you can take advantage of their plethora of experience in specialty areas.

Slide Processing: CPC offers slide processing services where we will prepare H&E slides on biopsies and submit the slides to you so that you can render your own diagnosis. This service is typically offered with 24 hour turn around time on the return of the stained slide(s).

In office Frozen Sections: CPC can assist in the establishment of a Frozen Section service in your practice which will include a cryostat, materials, and personnel to perform Frozen Sections in your own office.

Michael P. Viglione, M.D., Ph.D. Dermatopathologist, Director Dr. Viglione is the director of CPC's growing division of Dermatopathology. CPC Pathology analyzes over 80,000 skin specimens annually. Dr. Viglione is triple board certified in Dermatopathology, Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. He also specializes in the diagnosis of melanocytic neoplasms. He completed his Dermatopathology fellowship training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital department of Dermatology where he trained under Dr. Terry Barrett. Dr. Viglione also completed his pathology residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital where he also served as chief pathology resident. He earned his medical degree and Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Virginia. Dr. Viglione has contributed to Dermatopathology literature and is actively involved in teaching Dermatopathology to medical students and residents in the Chicago area.

Wenhua Liu, M.D., Ph.D., Dermatopathologist Dr. Liu is an integral part of our team of Dermatopathologists. He has a special interest and focus on inflammatory diseases of the skin including Direct Immunoflourescence. Dr. Liu is triple boarded in Dermatopathology, Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology. He completed his Dermatopathology fellowship at the University of Chicago, Department of Dermatology. He also completed his pathology residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of Chicago and served a year as Chief Pathology Resident. Dr. Liu continues to contribute to Dermatopathology literature and has co-authored authoritative texts. Dr. Liu obtained his Ph.D. at Rush University in Chicago in Biochemistry.
